SPBA/WCBA Bantam League Playoffs

The Chatham Diamonds Major Bantam team traveled to Belleriver and Leamington over the weekend for the Sunparlour/Western Counties Inter-county Bantam League Playoffs.  The Diamonds we the #1 seed finishing first in regular league play with an 11-4-1 record. The Chatham Diamonds Major Bantam team traveled to Belleriver and Leamington over the weekend for the Sunparlour/Western Counties Inter-county Bantam League Playoffs. 
The Diamonds we the #1 seed finishing first in regular league play with an 11-4-1 record.
The inter-county  bantam league included 9 teams from across SPBA and WCBA. Chatham Major, Sarnia, Corunna, Dresden, Leamington, Essex, Belleriver, Amherstburg, and Walker Homesites Minor. - Corunna chose not to participate in the playoffs.
The Playoff tournament kicked off with games being played in Belleriver and Leamington.
The Diamonds kickoff the tournament facing the squad from Walker Homesites and winning the opener 18-0 in 4 innings. Collin Bond was on the hill for the Diamonds allow only one hit, one walk while striking out three over the 4 innings. Daniel Boldt started the Diamonds off at-bat, crushing the first pitch for a home run. The boys would go on to add 10 more runs to lead the 1st 11-0 eventually scoring 5 more in the 3rd and winning by mercy rule in the bottom of 4 after a double by Boldt, Josh Noah double to drive Boldt in, Malcolm Campbell singled moving Noah to 3rd then Bond hit a hard deep fly ball in the open park that was caught, but, deep enough to allow Noah to score.

Walker Homesites 0 vs Chatham 18
Belleriver 8 vs Essex 5
Amherstburg 5 vs Sarnia 15
Dresden 6 vs Leamington 12
Saturday morning the Diamonds were in Leamington and faced the Belleriver team. Boldt and Campbell share the duties on the mound. Boldt allowed no runs and only one hit over 4 innings, striking out 7. Campbell also shut out Belleriver allowing only one hit and striking out two over 2 innings.Garret Day score the first run for the Diamonds after hitting a double in the 2nd inning and then taking home on a wild pitch. That would prove to be the game-winning run, but the boys went on to score 5 more runs in the next 4 innings winning 6-0 over the Belleriver team. Quinn Edwards, after getting hit by a pitch, that was heard throughout the park, in the 2nd inning, returned to the plate in the 4th and reached base on a Belleriver error driving in 2 runs. Campbell tripled and scored in the 5th. Bond, Noah, and Morgan Lucier all had the other hits for the Diamonds.
Round Two Results:
Belleriver 0 vs Chatham 6
Walker Homesites 3 vs Essex 9
Dresden 4 vs Amherstburg 9
Leamington 0 vs Sarnia 14
Round three found the Diamonds facing the Sarina Braves Saturday afternoon. Sarnia took a 2 run lead in the top half of the first inning, but the Diamonds answered back with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning. The next two innings would see both the Braves and the Diamonds being shut out for a run. The Diamonds lead 3-2 heading into the top of four as the rain started to fall. The Braves rallied to score 3 runs in the top of four and taking the lead 5-3. the bottom half of the 4th could not start due to heavy rain and thunder. Shortly thereafter, the games were suspended and scheduled to resume in Belleriver on Sunday morning at 9am.

Amherstburg 0 vs Essex 10
Belleriver 11 vs Leamington 12
Sarnia 5 vs Chatham 3 - SUSPENDED in BTM 4
Sunday morning was a downer, as teams arrived at the diamonds in Belleriver to find them under water. All available diamonds in the area were water logged and not playable. Although the weather looked great for the day, there would not have been reasonable time to get the remain games in and the tournament was suspended indefinitely.
Unfortunately ,with OBA finals just  12 days away, there is no time for these team to complete this playoff. Round four would have seen Leamington vs Chatham and Essex vs Sarina with the winner of each of these games playing for the championship.
Now, in final preparation for OBA's, the Diamonds will play a doubleheader exhibition with the 2015 "A" Champs LaSalle Titians at Fergie Jenkins Field on Sunday, Aug 28. Game one is at 10am.
The Diamonds will be heading to Guelph on Sept 2 to play for the OBA "A" division Championship. The Diamonds play Milton at 10am on Friday morning. Follow the action on twitter and CKSN.
