2023 Fergie Jenkins Most Outstanding Player

Congratulations to Cam Wellington for being named the 2023 Fergie Jenkins Most Outstanding Player for CMBA.
A brief description of the season Cam had for the Ontario Champion Diamonds:
This player has consistently been one of the leaders in all areas of the team over the past 3 seasons and the coaches have watched him become better each and every year. He was the best 2 strike batter on the team and his confidence with two strikes is remarkable. In 134 plate appearances he struck out only 10 times. This young man was also one of the top producers in RBI's which is why he batted high in the lineup.
His communication skills with his teammates are the best on the team and had the best baseball mind on the team. He was a very versatile player who the coaches would not hesitate to play at any position.
His pitching is the reason why this team was so successful this season and was arguable the top pitcher on the team. In 60 innings the opponents average was .219 and he struck out 35 with 13 looking while only waling 10 batters all season.
This year’s winner always displays superior sportsmanship and demonstrates humility when winning and grace when losing.
He has all of the attributes of a leader that a coach can ask for. He leads by example, always hustles regardless of the situation and his passion and enthusiasm is contagious to his teammates.
His talent and positive attitude were observed and recognized not only by his own team of coaches but also by those who he played against.
All of this is only a snippet of how this player truly demonstrates what a Chatham Minor Baseball player should be and as such should be recognized with the grandest award possible for our organization.
And to boot, he led his team to an Ontario Championship.
